He said the peaceful nature of the election in the area signifies that the NPP is the ultimate winner of the day, and added that “the election was only to choose people to lead, no one has won, you are still a member of the party.”
He urged supporters of all contestants to maintain the peace in the area and not cause trouble, “do not go about fighting because your candidate has lost,” he said, and called on them to unite and work hard to win election 2020.
Mr Akolgo made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Zuarungu after he was sworn into office.
He said the Bolgatanga East Parliamentary seat was a challenge for the party in the constituency adding that all efforts would be made to capture the seat from the National Democratic Congress in 2020.
The Chairman said the constituency executives would concentrate on the youth and women as part of strategies to strengthen the chances of the party.
Madam Nadia Adongo Musah, the Deputy Director in charge of Diaspora Relations at the Office of the President, who monitored the elections in the Region, expressed happiness with the conduct of the elections saying the various polling centres were calm and without hostilities.
She urged the other aspirants to unite and build the strong NPP community that we want, let’s get more people to set such examples where losers in an election support the winner.
Mr Edward Ameayam Agosigo, who contested the First Vice Chairmanship position, and lost, urged all who lost, and their supporters to rally behind the elected executives to improve the fortunes of the party.
The newly elected executives were immediately sworn into office and they include: Mr Karim Anagbila, First Vice Chairman; Mr Desmond Abane, Second Vice Chairman; Mr Francis Abaah Ayam, Secretary; Mr Simon Amokase, Assistant Secretary.
The rest are Mr Daniel Asanbono, Treasurer; Mr Stephen Aduko Anafo, Youth Organiser; and Madam Monica Akolgo, Women’s Organizer.
