Accra, Feb. 26, GNA - Nana Obiri Boahen, the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday advised party supporters to consider the party’s interest and its cooperate image as supreme, which should guide them in the on-going constituency elections.
“The candidates vying for various positions and the electorate must first of all think about the party’s future and make sure all they are doing now will not affect the party negatively,” he said.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Nana Obiri Boahen said generally the elections had been largely successful with an impressive turnout.
“Although we have recorded few isolated cases of court injunctions, let’s also note that the NPP is a human institutions and these are bound to happen.
“We are on course and all the problems will be duly addressed. People have really comported themselves well and so far I will say so good,” he added.
The NPP has begun the process of electing 275 constituency executives across the country. The exercise started last Saturday, February 24, and is expected to the end on Tuesday February 27, to fill various positions.
Originally the elections were to be held from February 21 to 24 but the party in a statement signed by its Acting General Secretary Mr John Boadu explained that the date was not favourable.
It said the decision to postpone the date was necessitated by a number of compelling reasons, including some important commitments of government, party members and Members of Parliament, which coincided with the date.
