Be agents of peace, Christians urged

Bolgatanga, Jan. 2, GNA – Reverend Father Clement Ajongba, the Youth and Vocation Chaplain of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, has called on all Christians to live lifestyles that would promote peace in the country.

He said Jesus Christ is a symbol of peace and love and Christians have to look up to him as a model so as to create a conducive environment for development.

Father Ajongba, who is also a priest at the Saint Anne’s Parish Catholic Church at Bongo in the Upper East Region, said this in his New Year sermon to celebrate the Feast of Mary, Mother of God, at Nayorigo, a community in the Bongo District.

The Feast of Mary, the Mother of God, is one of the important feasts celebrated by Catholics worldwide on January 1 each year to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ.

Father Ajongba urged all parents to foster peace and harmony in their respective homes and communities to enhance the spirit of love which is essential for human existence and economic development and urged the youth to emulate the lives of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ.

“This is an important feast in the Catholic calendar as it seeks to honour a woman who by her virtue was chosen by God to be the mother of His Son our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also the responsibility of parents to give their children proper upbringing to fit well in society and instil in them the fear of God”, he said.

The Diocesan Youth and Vocation Chaplain urged all Christians to eschew sin in order to enjoy the love of God.

“Sin is what separates us from the love of God and brings distraction. We are the sons and daughters of God through Jesus Christ who came that we may be saved from sin and open the gates of heaven for us. This means that we all have a place in heaven but its only sin that would prevent one from getting to heaven.”

Father Ajongba urged Ghanaians to constantly pray and rely on God as well as show positive attitudes towards other people to help make the New Year a success.

He said Mary, the Mother of God had to be honoured and urged Christians and Christians to learn more about the faith to avoid the mistakes people often make.

“In the Gospel of Saint Luke for instance, Angel Gabriel and Elizabeth addressed the Virgin as Hail Mary, full of Grace and blessed are you amongst women, blessed is the fruit of your Womb”, he said.
