The praise and worship concert dubbed “Achimota Subjugates in Worship,” organized by the Old Achimotan Association, was part of activities marking the school’s 90th anniversary celebration.
The event brought together students, staff, and hundreds of Akoras of the various year groups, as they submerged themselves in pure worship under the power of God.
Also thrilling fans with inspiring performances were Ghana’s finest chorale group, the Harmonious Chorale, the Achimota School Choir and other great gospel musicians, who set the tone for the headline artiste.
A statement issued by the organizers of the event said “Achimota Subjugates in Worship,” was to provide an opportunity for both past and present students as well as staff, to come together in appreciation of God’s goodness towards them and the school throughout the 90-year journey.
“Through the years of life, education, school, all the challenges, we as individual members, both present and old students, decided to come together as one big family and surrender to the greatness of the Lordship of Jesus Christ,” Ms Yaa Gyamera, the Chairperson of the “Achimota Subjugates in Worship” Committee, stated.
“Our school song says “subjugate yourself so you may rule” and that is why we have come to surrender in worship and obedience to the highest authority, Jesus Christ,” she added.
The atmosphere was filled with power, as Joe Mettle, the “Onwawani’ singer, carried the crowd to the throne of grace with his hit tracks and many other praise songs.
From the beginning of this year, the Old Students Association have organized health walks, monthly symposia called “Achimota Speaks,” to commemorate the all year-long celebration.
Other events to be held before the year ends include ‘Pirates of Peasants’ and a grand ball.
