Tamale, Sept. 26, GNA - A family of a victim in Monday’s (September 18, 2017) armed robbery attack at Walewale, which led to the death of one and injuries to two others, has petitioned the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area to investigate the incident to bring perpetrators to book.
A copy of the petition by the Bishanaayiri Family of Tamplungu signed by its Head, Bishanaaba and made available to the GNA in Tamale, demanded that the DCE of the West Mamprusi District, who is also Chairman of the District Security Committee, take steps to bring justice to the deceased.
The petition said “this is necessary to erase the suspicions citizens of the district have on the District Police Unit who are to serve justice and protect citizens.”
On Monday, September 18, 2017 around 1900 hrs, armed robbers attacked a mobile money vendor at Walewale and whiles escaping, they began to shoot sporadically and in the process shot Mr Yakubu Razak in the chest killing him on the spot.
Mr Razak, until his death, was a staff of Ghana Cocoa Board in the Central Region and he returned home on leave to visit his family at Walewale.
The petition said “on that faithful day, Mr Razak went to the market center to buy medication from a pharmaceutical shop close to what has now become the crime scene. After buying his medications, he was along the road, on a bicycle towards the family house when he was shot.”
It listed three other robbery cases within and outside the Walewale township, which happened between September, 2016 and July, 2017 saying the failure of the police to investigate and make public reports on such cases emboldened the criminals to continue to terrorize the residents.
The petition demanded that the DCE provide feedback on preliminary investigations into the incident within a week upon receipt of the petition.
It served notice that “we intend to pursue this issue to the national level and to its logical conclusion adding “We pay taxes, through which the Police Service draws its pay, to be protected and not to be abandoned to our fate with robbers on daily basis.”
