Tamale, Aug. 17, GNA - Some participants at a town hall meeting organized by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) in Tamale on Wednesday have called on TaMA to come out with an appropriate strategy to improve sanitation in the metropolis.
They said the metropolis was always flooded after rainfall, adding a strategy was needed to spell out ways to improve refuse collection and help ensure a reliable sewage system which would prevent floods.
Others called for jobs to reduce unemployment in the metropolis as well as improvement on the conditions in the Aboabo Market to boost trade and income of the people.
The town hall meetings, which will be replicated across all districts in the country, provides the platform for duty bearers to explain government’s policies to the people as well as listen to their concerns.
People from various backgrounds attended the town hall meeting in Tamale, where there were presentations on general government policy initiatives, TaMA programme initiatives, Planting for Food and Jobs, Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme and National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan.
Mr Mohammed Adam Nashiru, former President of Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, commended government for implementing the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, which is needed to revamp the agriculture sector.
Mr Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister, whose speech was read on his behalf, said the town hall meeting formed part of the government’s strategy to promote good governance and accountability in the country.
He said the concerns expressed by the people at the meeting would help shape government’s policy direction.
Mr Iddrisu Musa, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer, said the town hall meeting brought government closer to the people adding that TaMA would work to address their concerns.
