Kumasi, May 8, GNA - The leadership of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG) has been advised to work assiduously to advance the core values of the Church to bring development to the people.
The Very Reverend Major Yaw Boateng (Retired), the Kumasi Diocesan Northern Outreach Coordinator of the Church, said their priority should focus on growing the intellectual, economic and physical wellbeing of the masses.
They should be actively involved in the crusade to restore discipline in all aspects of the nation’s endeavours, including the efforts to minimise degradation of the ecology and bio-diversity.
Very Rev Major Boateng (rtd), who was addressing the third biennial general meeting of the Kumasi Circuit Lay Movement Council of the MCG, at the Adum Wesley Cathedral, said the church’s core mandate was to be committed to the cause of humanity.
The programme was aimed to fashion out new strategies by the laity as it seeks to make inroads in its evangelism and outreach activities.
It was under the theme “Go and Make Disciples of all Nations: Rekindling the Methodist Evangelical Heritage for Church Growth.”
Very Rev. Major Boateng (rtd) said Methodism was founded on the basis of evangelism to bring hope to those depressed and in despair.
The essence of their beliefs, he said, ought to, therefore, be made more visible and practicable, particularly in the wake of the global recession, rise in crime and discrimination in all its forms which had raised anxiety amongst the people.
Mr Joseph Appiah Mpiani, Kumasi Circuit Chairman of the Lay Movement Council, underlined their determination to work closely with the clergy for the propagation of the Gospel.
He pleaded with the laity not to abandon on-going development projects of the church, urging them to contribute meaningfully for their successful completion.
