Accra, May 8, GNA - Madam GiftyTwum Ampofo, the Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has called on philanthropists and non-governmental organisations to support the Ministry in its various interventions.
She said interventions such as the School Feeding Programme needed more external funding in order to meet the demands of the overly stretched budget of the Ministry and urged humanitarian societies to create partnerships with the government to ensure development.
Mrs Ampofo made the statement at the launch of the 36th multiple district congress of the Lions Club International in Accra.
She lauded the achievements of the association over the years, saying “the Lions Club has been a strong pillar of development for countries all over the world and it is always refreshing to see a club like Lions always willing to invest in the vulnerable, which we as a Ministry strive to protect and expect nothing in return.”
The event saw members of the Lions International Clubs from most African countries including Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Cape Verde, Congo, Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali and Central Africa in attendance.
Mr Alphonse ACHRAR, Chairman of the Council of Governors of the Club, in his goodwill message stressed the need for members’ continuous support in expanding their projects seeking to improve eye care, relieving hunger and activities in the area of saving the environment.
