Accra, April 18, GNA - Mr Dziedzorm Kweku Segbefia, the Expeditions Leader of Brave Hearts a corporate entity has urged Ghanaians to develop interest in sports adventure tourism during festivities like the just ended Easter.
Mr Segbefia said this in an interview with the Ghana News agency on the side-lines of a sports expedition with a group of tourists in the Shai Hills in the Dangme West District of the Greater Accra Region on Easter Monday.
Mr Segbefia acknowledged that Ghana was blessed with a large variety of jungles, hills and landscape that was conducive for exploration and adventure.
He said sport adventure, though a recreational package offered by the Brave Hearts Expeditions Organisation, was a healthy way to unwind during holidays.
“This year, there have been many adventures, for individuals and corporate bodies.
“The biggest adventure however took place during the Easter holidays beginning from Friday all through to Easter Monday granting the Ghanaian populace the opportunity to hike, bike in the plains and partake in abseil in jungles of Shai Hills” he added.
Speaking on the benefits of sports expeditions, the Expeditions Leader said, it was an exciting way to exercise. Tourists were made to hike and bike in groups, which encouraged networking and sightseeing.
“Bikers and hikers hardly feel the impact of the journey a 17 kilometre ride means nothing in the company of Zebras, Antelopes and Baboons. Today, about 1000 calories were burnt during the biking expedition.
“It also builds the mental aptitude of people to handle pressure and fear in real life situations.
“For instance, most people get to abseil on rocks and table mountains from terrifying heights in the Hills and quickly overcome the…’I cannot do it spirit’ and later begin to enjoy the challenge. This could combat the suicide plagues that have besieged our country lately,” he noted.
Mr. Sebgefia also noted that it could spice up relationships and create new ones through teamwork and the support of partners.
BraveHearts organisation was formed in 2010 to promote outdoor participatory sport tourism among Ghanaians and visiting tourists.
Adventures are organised daily in the Krobo hills, along the shorelines of Lake Volta, cross country safaris, riding and hiking through spectacular plains in Shai and Kwahu Mountains as well as canoeing on the Volta Lake, among other explorations.
The company also provides camping, paragliding and wilderness experimental.
