Kumasi, April 17, GNA – Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Ms. Elizabeth Agyeman, has asked the church to do more to support the socio-economic development of the society.
She said it should be concerned about the physical needs of the people and accept to join hands with the state to address these.
She was speaking at an Easter convention of the Christ Resurrection Church in Kumasi.
The climax of the event, held under the theme “Building on the foundation of the fathers” was the induction of the General New Overseer, the Reverend Joshua Emmanuel Mensah.
Ms. Agyeman reminded Christians that they had important role to play in helping to shape and build a nation that worked for everybody.
They should be patriotic and actively take part in the governance and development process, she added.
She urged all to be inspired by the sacrifices made the founding fathers to build on the strong foundations laid.
She called on the congregation to work together to grow the church, to give hope and bring salvation to people.
The Deputy Minister also urged the new General Overseer to be open and accountable to those he was leading to sustain their trust and support.
Apostle Dr. John Kerdmott Mensah, a retired pastor, who delivered the sermon, asked Christians to stand firm in their faith.
They should uphold the values of patience, tolerance, godliness, and to show love and care for the poor, the needy and the vulnerable.
“They should wash anew and allow the spirit of the Lord to dwell in them so as to be able to build on the foundation laid by Christ.”
The Rev Mensah thanked members of the church for the opportunity and pledged he would not disappoint.
He asked for their total backing to build on the legacies of the founding fathers of the church.
He appealed to the government to make job creation, an urgent national priority and said that was the solution to disturbing illegal mining phenomenon.
