The executives have a three-year tenure to engage effectively with the members, and collaborate with Management of the Institution to provide support in areas, including the development and expansion of infrastructure, environment, basic amenities, as well as enhanced quality teaching and learning, to improve the image of the University at all levels both locally and internationally.
The members were: Mr David Ayisala as Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Nyavor, Vice Chairman, Mr Seth N. D. Dodoo, Secretary, Mr Arnold Tipong, Treasurer, Mr Godson C. Apedo, Public Relations Officer, Mr Orlando Adzokpa, Organiser and Ms Vicentia Tevie as the Women’s Coordinator.
Ms Esaa Elorm Acolatse, the University’s Legal Officer, led the new Executives to swear the Oath of Office and charged them to be diligent in achieving the objectives of the Association.
Professor Sylvester Achio, the Vice Chancellor of the Accra Technical University, congratulated the new Executives for their appointment and assured them of the maximum co-operation of the Management of the Institution.
He acknowledged the fact that globally the formation of Alumni Associations was key pivots upon which such Institutions rested for additional support in their development drives, saying the ATUAA had over the years been very supportive in the expansion of various infrastructure and other projects.
The ATU he said, was revamping to transform its image, and “we need to synchronise our roles to get the Institution revamped”.
Prof. Achio said one of the strategies envisioned, was to encourage all former students to join the Alumni Association not only to build a stronger force for the mobilization of funding, but also to serve as an inspiration for upcoming graduates to emulate, ensure a high sense of belongingness and further serve as a platform for continuous networking among members and the Institution.
Mr David Ayisala, thanked the Members of the Association for the confidence and trust reposed in them for the mutual development of both Institutions.
He also thanked the Vice Chancellor, Management, as well as his predecessors for the active collaboration that had existed between them over the years, leading to the yielding of many successful fruits, and gave an assurance to sustain and improve upon what had been achieved.
He however said with the current severe membership challenge, the Executive needed to work extremely fast and hard in order to make the Association attractive and competitive to especially the youth.
“Our presence is going to be strongly felt”, he said, and mentioned some strategies to be adopted as the targeting of members through the institution of Year Groups, formation of active meeting times and chapters and making regular public announcements in the media.
Mr Ayisala appealed to the University authorities to recognise the Association as a collaborator and not a competitor in order to harmonise activities for effective outcomes.
He said some of the programmes outlined for the year include the holding of a series of breakfast meetings, seminars for the third year students, health screening, donations, as well as the sinking of a bore hole to help resolve the water challenges faced by students and staff of the University on campus.
