Parliament has approved an estimated GH¢22.8 billion budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Health to cover the period ending December 31, 2026.
The allocation, one of the largest among ministerial estimates, underscores government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
The funds will be directed towards expanding health infrastructure, improving health services delivery, and supporting essential nationwide health programmes.
The approval signals a major boost for the sector, which has faced increasing demands due to population growth and evolving public health challenges.
Legislators emphasised that the significant investment reflected the seriousness government attached to healthcare as a driver of national development.
The Ministry is expected to channel the resources into priority areas including the construction and rehabilitation of hospitals and clinics, procurement of medical equipment, and expansion of preventive and primary healthcare services.
Observers note that the allocation ranks among the highest ministerial budgets in recent years, positioning the health sector to make substantial progress in achieving universal health coverage and improving outcomes for citizens across the country.
