Mr Daniel Agyei-Larbi, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has warned Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals (CEWP’s) to desist from extorting monies from the public over service installations.

According to Mr Agyei–Larbi , the ECG was not pleased with the activities of such CEWP’s, adding the ECG was going to call in the Police to arrest such culprits.

“Stop acting as agents for people who want service installations.”

He said: “The ECG would not tolerate such activities any more. We have received a number of complainants from the public and I think this time around we will have to hand you over to the Police.”

The PRO said this when 528 CEWP’s from the Southern Sector received their certificates after passing the November/December 2016 Electrical Certification Examination in Accra.

Mr Agyei-Larbi appealed to them to concentrate on their work as domestic, commercial and Industrial electrical wiring professionals.

Mr Wisdom Ahiataku-Togobo, Director, Renewable and Alternative Energy, Ministry of Energy tasked the CEWP’s to convince their clients to patronize locally manufactured cables in their wiring to keep standards.

Mr. Ahiataku-Togobo said the country wanted to reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks which occur as a result of the use of inferior electrical cables.

Nana Addo-Tetebo, President of Ghana Electrical Contractors Association appealed to government to revisit the ECG concessional deal because it had some challenges that needed to be addressed.
