There appears to be confusion over the nationality of a 37-year-old man arrested in India for attempting to sell cocaine.
The man, Chigozie Francis Christoper was arrested Monday by undercover officials from India’s Central Crime Branch in an area called Lobo Lane in Mallikatte, where he reportedly had gone looking for customers.
While some reports from India say he is from Gbada, Ghana, others say he is a resident of 20, Somorin, Lagos, Gbagada in Ghana.
According to the reports, the police seized 11 grams of cocaine from him. They also seized two mobile phones and 3,300 rupees in cash from him.
One report citing police said, Christopher went to India on a business visa two years ago and continued to stay in India illegally. In the past few months, he came to the city from Goa a couple of times to sell cocaine to customers, adding that the cocaine seized from the suspect was the highest seized so far.
While Christopher’s other name Chigozie, sounds more Nigerian than Ghanaaian, there is no location in Ghana called Gbada or Somorin, Lagos. Lagos is the commercial capital of Nigeria.
The only plausible explanation could be that Christopher might have travelled to India on a Ghanaian passport.
