The northern regional secretariat of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted that, despite several attempts to rectify the Bimbilla nomination form irregularity, the decision has been deferred to the National Election Committee.
After a resolution by the vetting committee, Alhaji Zaruk received an exceptional opportunity to rectify his incomplete nomination form at the Bimbila constituency office, even after the nomination process had closed.
In pursuit of this, a regional delegation, led by the Regional Second Vice Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Rahaman Mahama, along with the Regional Secretary, Treasurer, and other officials, convened at the said office on Sunday, January 7, 2024, to oversee this process.
Despite considerable efforts and the Vetting Committee’s extension of the nomination period to rectify the irregularities, Alhaji Zaruk declined the offer without disclosing his reasons.
“The regional delegation stayed at the Bimbila office from 10 am to 3 pm, expecting Alhaji Zaruk’s arrival to complete and sign his nomination form. However, after direct communication on the phone, Alhaji Zaruk declined the offer and requested the form be taken to his residence in Tamale before 5 pm, reiterating this demand in a subsequent press conference,” The party said in a statement dated January 8, 2024.
Alhaji Ahmed Zaruk’s refusal to adhere to standard procedures and to accept the vetting committee’s offer has led the committee to defer the decision to the National Election Committee.
