The office of former President John Agyekum Kufuor has denied reports that he has passed away.
In a press release, the office said that the former president is “very much alive and well.”
Dr. Kwabena Osei-Adubofour, Senior Aide and Spokesperson of the former president in the release said that the office has been “inundated with persistent rumours” of Kufuor’s death.
“We wish to categorically deny such occurrence and state emphatically that the former president is very much alive and well,” the release said.
The office urged the general public to “disabuse their minds of these malicious and uncanny rumours that spring out of nothing.”
The office also urged those who may be behind the propagation of the rumours to “desist from them henceforth.”
“We can only speculate that the perpetrators do so out of mischief-making and possibly for unfathomable political purposes,” the release said.
The office said that it prays for God’s continuous blessings for Kufuor.
Kufuor, 84, served as president of Ghana from 2001 to 2009.
The rumours of Kufuor’s death began circulating on social media earlier this week.
This is not the first time such rumours had been circulated on social media.
