The New Patriotic Party (NPP) branch in the Banda Constituency of the Bono Region has hit back at the Member of Parliament, Ahmed Ibrahim for criticizing ongoing road construction projects in the area.
According to the party, the MP did nothing to ensure that the roads were constructed when his party was in government for eight years.
Ahmed Ibrahim, during a tour of the constituency last week expressed worry over the neglect of some of their roads.
However, the NPP Constituency Secretary, Emmanuel Akone insisted that the MP does not have the moral right to complain about the state of the road.
“When we were campaigning in 2016, Nana Addo came there by road and promised them that he will fix the road for them. In March this year, the contractor started work on the road. So he was just doing it until the rains started in July. Because of that, the contractor could not work anymore. The DCE and the constituency executives of the party put pressure on the contractor but the excuse he gave was they should wait because he couldn’t work due to the rains.”
He continued by saying, “Ahmed Ibrahim, the MP for Banda constituency has no right to talk about the road. As at the time your president was there, you didn’t say anything about the road. Now that your government is in opposition you are making it a different issue. After the rains, we will do it and plaster it because it is good for the people of Banda.”
The Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency Ahmed Ibrahim had earlier accused contractors assigned to fix the roads in the area of failing President Nana Akufo-Addo.
He said “The party contractors of Nana Addo’s Administration are the very people who are disappointing the President. I am saying this because the contract of the road from Banda Boasa, Banda Biama to Nsawkaw was awarded to the former National Organiser of the NPP who is Alhaji Moctar Bamba. He comes from this place. If the President has done his part in awarding a contract to you as a party, what do you think you have to do to support?”
Most communities in the Banda Constituency have been cut off following heavy rains in the area. Communities that been affected include Menji- Bui, Banda Wewa and Banda Boase Junction.
