V/Region: GhanaThink Foundation holds forum on job creation

A forum on job creation has been held in the Volta Region to enable young people to brainstorm about prospects and opportunities for employment and job creation in the region. 

The event, put together by the GhanaThink Foundation with support from Star Ghana and Citi FM aims at exposing graduates to the job market and helping them to identify various employment opportunities unique to their geographical locations.

Dubbed “Jobcamp”, the initiative is part of events put together by GhanaThink Foundation in solving the unemployment situation in the country.

Though Ghana has a young population, very few are economically empowered in Ghana.

Currently, a higher number of the country’s population are unemployed while the few who are employed receive meagre wages. 

According to the Ghana Statistical Service’s report for 2014, among people working, 47% in a 15–24 age-group, 39% in a 25–34 age-group, and 30% in a 35–65 age-group are not satisfied with their works and would wish to switch jobs.

This calls for both government and private sector interventions. 

The Jobcamp in Ho provided the platform where young, accomplished businesspeople and professionals exposed the youth to realities of the world.

Trainers shared their experiences and lessons in the job market and how the youth can take bold steps to breakthrough.

Among the Mentors that featured at the program have distinguished themselves in the public service, Life Coaching, Entrepreneurship, Education Sector among others.    

Participants had the time to discuss the various business opportunities in the Volta Region and how to harness them fully.

 

The lead Organizer and the Founder of GhanaThink Foundation, Ato Ulzen-Appiah said the Volta Region is better positioned to create jobs in the tourism and hospitality business.

He told Citi News is part of a nationwide project to carried out in all regions to empower the country’s youth.

 

Some young businesses who are doing well in the Volta Region also shared their experiences with participants.

A young female entrepreneur, Fafa Klu who operates a fruit beverage joint in the Volta Regional Capital, told the youth not be scared to enter into partnerships to help build a synergy that supports company growth.

One of the participants who spoke to Citi News after the program said “it is was eye-opening to be part of this workshop. I am not only empowered but also equipped to make a move into a future I always hoped for.”
