The Omanhene (Paramount Chief) of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional area in the Western Region, has commended the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), for the commitment to resolve complaints of frequent outages by residents in the northern part of the region.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II, made the remarks after a presentation by officials of ECG to members of the traditional council, at an extra-ordinary meeting of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council.
The meeting was attended by over hundred Odikros, Sub-Chiefs, Divisional Chiefs and Krontihenes from all over the traditional area.
The Omanhene, speaking on behalf of the Council, also called on the ECG to comprehensively deal with the complaints of high bills and over-billing by customers in the area.
Earlier, the Public Relations Officer of ECG in the Western Region, Philip Osei Bonsu, had explained that, ECG in collaboration with GRIDCO, was constructing a Bulk Supply point at Juaboso. Mr. Philip Osei Bonsu disclosed that, ECG will soon commence work on its substation, to be sited adjacent the GRIDCO substation, which is almost complete.
“When completed, the new ECG substation will serve as a BSP and a Switching Station which will greatly improve the availability and reliability of power supply to customers in the Juaboso, Bia East and West, Sefwi Wiawso and Enchi enclave”.
The new District Manager for the Sefwi Wiawso operational district of ECG, Ing. Kofi Gyan, who was officially introduced to the council, thanked the Omanhene and the entire council for their cooperation so far.
He disclosed that, his focus in the district will be to reduce system losses, Improve System Reliability, and ensure a marked improvement in customer service delivery. He therefore advised customers with billing issues to report at the district office for solutions.
“My focus is to improve on customer service delivery in the district. All our front line executives have thus been thoroughly trained for the task. Also, with the completion of this BSP, our customers in the defined catchment area would see an improvement in the services rendered to them”, he noted.
The ECG team later visited the Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School and Sefwi Wiawso Secondary Technical School as part of an ongoing exercise to educate students of the various SHSs about the company’s operations.
