Local miners in Ada township have commenced their third season of salt harvesting at the Songor Lagoon under the management of Electrochem Ghana Limited.
The ongoing harvest, which began in late December 2024, involves communities such as Nakomkope, Bonikope, Ajumanikope, and Agbedrafor, utilising community salt pans provided by the company.
This initiative is part of Electrochem’s extensive community development plan, which, as of August 2024, had delivered 70 salt production pans across seven project-affected communities.
Currently, four communities are fully engaged in harvesting, while the remaining three are at various stages of pan completion. Importantly, these facilities have been made available to residents at no cost, ensuring sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment for communities around the lagoon.
Electrochem Ghana Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Razak Adam, highlighted the positive outcomes of the partnership between the company and local residents.
“Proceeds from previous community pan harvests have funded renovations of community schools, among other developmental projects, without relying on the district assembly,” Mr. Adam stated.
The company’s broader development strategy, including community salt pans and outgrower schemes, aims to equip local producers with the tools and resources needed to meet high production standards.
By providing access to quality brine and modern facilities, Electrochem continues to enhance economic opportunities and strengthen community ties in the Ada area.
