As part of activities to mark this year's 'Homowo' festival celebration, the indigenes of Abola on Saturday embarked on a health walk dubbed, "Take a walk, your health is your wealth."
The eight-kilometre walk, which started at 7:00am at the Abola palace in James Town to the World Bank, Kingsway and back to the starting point was to create awareness on the need to exercise and also to keep the youth fit to usher them into the main event on Saturday.
The Abola Mantse and Ga Atofoatse, Nii Ahene Nunoo III told the Ghanaian Times that it was relevant for the youth to exercise and keep fit to improve the quality of their health since they have not been engaging in regular exercise, adding that "the walk was also to remind the people of the upcoming festival."
He explained that the festival was fast approaching and the community needed the youth to be in shape to fully participant in the celebrations, hence the walk.
Health screening, boxing, soccer, clean up exercises and other activities, Nii Ahene Nunoo III noted, were scheduled within the week to set the tone for the celebration.
"We are organising health screening to screen the community to check their health status in order to help them with prescribed medication, there is boxing and soccer match to entertain the youth and we will crown it with massive cleanup exercise to rid the entire township of filth to evoke the gods to join the celebration," he stated.
The Abola Mantse also appealed to the youth to help make the season's festival free from violence and encouraged them to stay focus and united to make the celebration a success.
He observed that there were unscrupulous people deceiving the youth with money to engage in violence and called on them to desist from the act, saying "do not allow anyone to divide the township into two with their wealth, know that we are one people and united we stand but divided we fall."
