Ho — A FARMER at Hodzo-Aviefe in the Ho municipality, Emmanuel Dorfe, is on the run after he allegedly slashed his wife with a cutlass repeatedly, resulting in her death later at the hospital.
The Ho Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anthony Danso, told the Ghanaian Times in Ho yesterday that Dorfe ambushed his wife on her way to church, at about 8.30pm on May 16, before inflicting cutlass wounds on her.
DSP Danso said, Dorfe repeatedly slashed his wife from head to toe, in the full glare of their 17-year-old son, who was accompanying her to church.
He said the victim sustained deep cuts particularly on the neck and both legs.
DSP Danso said the terrified boy raised the alarm, which attracted people to the scene, and they rushed the woman to the Ho Teaching Hospital, however she was declared dead on arrival at the facility.
He said the body of Vivian Dorfe has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
DSP Danso said that after the murderous act, Dorfe entered the nearby bush in the darkness, and escaped with the cutlass in hand.
According to the municipal police commander, the couple who had four children, recently had a misunderstanding at home during which he threatened to kill her.
According to DSP Danso the Volta Regional office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) invited the couple to Ho for settlement of the matter.
It was left with four days for the couple to honour the invitation to DOVVSU when the man decided to terminate the life of the wife.
A search for Dorfe is underway.
