President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to Ghanaians to continue to support his government as it prepares the country for a hopeful future.
He said the programmes and policies of his administration had begun to take roots and would grow to bear fruits for all Ghanaians.
"There is hope for a better and brighter tomorrow," President Akufo-Addo said at a thanksgiving service in Accra yesterday to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana.
The event was on the theme, "180 years of Methodism in Accra- Intensifying our Teaching Ministry towards Disciple Making."
The President indicated that the government's achievements over the past 22 months, though modest, had been visible and affected the lives of many Ghanaians.
Under the current government, many Ghanaians who were used to poor utility services at very high tariffs were now enjoying improved and affordable utility services, he said.
Additionally, he said a lot of parents were saving thousands of cedis every term due to the introduction of the free senior high school programme by his administration.
While acknowledging the enormity of the task ahead of the government, President Akufo-Addo was certain that his administration would fulfill its promise of a better future for Ghanaians.
President Akufo-Addo appealed to the Methodist Church and all Christians in the country to pray for the government to enable it fulfill its mandate to Ghanaians.
"Please pray for me, the government and the people I have appointed to various positions that we exercise our responsibilities with humility and integrity," he appealed to the congregation.
President Akufo-Addo congratulated the church for its contribution to the development of the country in almost two centuries and urged it to partner the government in development.
He entreated the leadership of the church to continue to invest in the moral and spiritual development of the members of the church.
"The growth of the church should be measured not only by the number of its followers, but also in the quality of its members who are dedicated to uphold the spiritual virtues of Jesus and who want to help build a developed Ghana," he said.
Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Reverend Dr. Paul K. Boafo, said the theme for the celebration was appropriate in encouraging members to intensify their preaching ministry to enhance disciple making.
He explained that preaching, which was one of the unique identities of Christians, was a commission from Jesus Christ to all His followers to help others acquire the right knowledge of God.
Christians, especially members of the Methodist Church Ghana, were thus to remain resolute in displaying and acting in accordance with the unique identity to bring about positive transformation in the society and the world at large, he added.
"It is clear from the theme that the Accra diocese seeks to intensify its teaching ministry. I will like to encourage you to continue to emphasise the teaching ministry of the church, so that our people will have the opportunity to grow in the knowledge and grace of God. It is my wish that as you do this faithfully, it will inspire all believers to spend time in acquiring the right knowledge of God through the study of God's word," the Presiding Bishop stated.
He further called on the members to demonstrate by words and deeds that they were the "light of the world" and manifest the faithfulness of God in their daily lives.
"We should let our actions and teachings bring about healing to the society. We should endeavour to be agents of positive ramifications to our people. Let's keep up with the holiness and share the Word as Jesus taught us to do," Most Rev Dr Boafo stressed.
Diocesan Bishop of Accra, Right Reverend Samuel Kofi Osabutey, said there was much work to be done in the diocese in the area of evangelism, especially in the rural areas and urged the members to contribute all they could to support the fulfillment of the task to "make disciples for Christ".
