The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has presented 50 dual furniture desks to the Abelenkpe Junior High School in the Municipality.
The presentation follows an appeal from the head teacher of the school, Kwaku Antwi Boasiako to the assembly to provide furniture to the school when the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Sandra Owusu Ahenkorah visited the school as part of my first day at school activities in September this year.
During the visit some of the pupils were sitting on the floor while others were crammed on a desk, following which Mrs Ahenkorah promised to provide some furniture for the school while attempts were made to address their long term challenges.
She urged the school to take good care of the desks which could warrant the demand for more assistance.
According to her ,the government free Education Policy could not be achieved if basic schools were not empowered to overcome minor challenges.
Mr Boasiako appealed to the MCE to help complete the primary block as well as help complete and furnish the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Laboratory of the school.
The school which he explained had over 500 pupils who would have to write their ICT examinations and urged the assembly to help complete the abandoned Get FUND projects to enable the school to have full complements of academic infrastructure.
Mrs Ahenkorah urged the school not to wait for a visitor to come to the school before complaining about their challenges, but offer concerns about their problem but channel grievances to the assembly and the education directorate.
"You do not have to sit for visitors to come before you start complaining that is the reason for periodic visits by education officers," she added.
She said her office was open and urged major stakeholders to report any challenges to her outfit for prompt resolution.
