The Ankaful Psychiatric hospital in the Central region owes its drug and food suppliers over 4.5 million Ghana Cedis, forcing the hospital management to run on inadequate supply of drugs and food.
The situation has led to an increase in patient attacks on nurses.
The various wards at the over 50-year-old facility, have also developed structural cracks and have poor electrical wiring systems thus leading to electrocution at the wards.
A similar situation at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital last year led to the temporary closure of the facility.
