Dutch-born defender Jeremie Frimpong has revealed one Ghanaian football he idolized whiles growing up.
The Bayer Leverkusen wing back who grew up in England says he idolized Michael Essien as a kid.
“I idolized Michael Essien growing up, saw what he did at Chelsea, Real Madrid and the national team, I also like Christian Atsu and the Ayew brothers, I watched the 2010 Wold Cup and fell in love with Ghana because the players gave their all” he told 3sports
Essien is now retired but is considered one of the best midfielders to ever play the game.
He represented Ghana at the 2006 and 2014 World Cup and was capped 59 times.
24-year old Frimpong, who is currently in Ghana for holidays, took time to participate in a football game in Dansoman, Accra.
Despite his Ghanaian heritage, Frimpong was born in the Netherlands and moved to England with his family at age seven.
Having previously been on Manchester City’s books, Frimpong has now established himself as an important player for the Dutch national team, earning 10 caps since choosing to represent his birth country.
