Ghana coach Otto Addo has responded to growing calls for his resignation following the Black Stars’ disappointing 2-1 loss to Niger in their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Addo, who has faced criticism for Ghana’s failure to qualify for next year’s tournament, made it clear that he has no intention of stepping down.
“I’m not the person who can resign. If I had done this, I would never have become a player or even a coach,” Addo stated after Monday’s game at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars’ failure to secure a single victory in the qualifiers, finishing bottom of Group F, has placed Addo’s future under intense scrutiny.
The match saw Ghana end their campaign with three points, scoring just three goals in six matches. Despite a debut goal from Jerry Afriyie, Ghana’s defensive issues were evident, and a missed penalty by Mohammed Kudus in added time only added to the team’s woes.
With the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council meeting to review the Black Stars’ performances, Addo’s future remains uncertain.
The GFA is expected to make key decisions about the national team’s direction after a dismal qualifying campaign.
