Inaki Williams doubtful for Ghana’s games vs. Angola and Niger

Ghana forward Inaki Williams is a major doubt for the team’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying games against Angola and Niger after picking up what his club describes as an overload in the hamstring of the left leg.

Inaki was included in coach Otto Addo’s 25-man squad, which was released on Thursday, but it is looking increasingly likely that the forward will withdraw.

The 30-year-old was on target for Athletic Bilbao in midweek in the Europa League as they beat Ludogorets 2-1 to record their third win of their European campaign.

Inaki was in line to play in Billbao’s game against Real Valladolid on Sunday, but he will not play as his name was omitted from Bilbao’s travelling squad.

The extent of his injury is yet to be known, but preliminary tests and Athletic Bilbao’s statement confirm that the forward has an overload in the hamstring of his left leg.

The injury casts doubts over Inaki’s involvement for Ghana as the striker missed June’s international window – when Ghana recorded their only wins of the year – with a foot injury.

Ghana face an uphill task in the qualifying rounds as their chances of progression hinge on Sudan losing both games while they secure maximum points in their remaining games.

Ghana will play Angola on Friday, November 15 in Luanda before hosting Niger three days later in Accra.
