Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has condemned President Akufo-Addo’s comment on neglecting development in Ekumfi because the people voted out his party’s candidate in the 2020 general elections.
John Mahama’s comment comes after his tour of the 14 constituencies in the Central Region and interaction with chiefs in Ekumfi, Brakwa, and Ajumako Besease on Saturday, November 9.
It can be recalled that in January 2024, President Akufo-Addo revealed that his government neglected development in Ekumfi due to the residents’ decision to vote Francis Ato Cudjoe out of Parliament in the 2020 elections.
The president expressed dissatisfaction with the voting pattern in Ekumfi during an interaction with traditional leaders from the constituency at the Jubilee House.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, the former President criticised the President for his statement, stating that every citizen, regardless of their political allegiance, deserves to have their voices heard and their needs addressed.

He said Akufo-Addo’s is demonstrating “petty partisan politics” rather than being accountable to the people of Ghana.
John Mahama assured that if he wins the general elections, his government will ensure that development shall be a right for all, not a privilege for a few.
“How does a government ignore the needs of the people it governs, seemingly punishing communities for their democratic choices in voting for the NDC and electing its parliamentary candidates?
“This is not just a political issue but a matter of justice and accountability. Every citizen, regardless of their political allegiance, deserves to have their voices heard and their needs addressed.
“As I have done before when I was president and will lead this country to achieve again, development shall be a right for all, not a privilege for a few. The NDC administration of John Mahama and Naana Jane will ensure the progress of our communities and meet your needs, and I promise that no community will be left behind,” he wrote on Facebook, Sunday, November 10 2024.
