The Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners (GNASSM) has announced a fruitful discussion with the government to combat illegal mining in the country.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in efforts to safeguard Ghana’s natural resources.
“Our recent press conference in Kumasi on October 4,2024 , emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to address illegal mining. We appreciate the government’s prompt response to our call for partnership. We extend our gratitude to all our stakeholders for their unwavering support, “they said in a statement signed by the National Director of Communication, Alhassan Abdul Razak.
Key outcomes of the partnership include, government will deploy trained water wardens and the Navy to join forces with GNASSM’s taskforce, patrolling water bodies and protecting forest reserves, declared red zones.
Under the partnership, the GNASSM and government will work together to ensure the sustainable management of these critical ecosystems.
Alhassan Abdul Razak said they will invite Organised Labour, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Associations, and Institutions and those who are calling for a total ban on lawful Small-Scale Mining to join forces with them in dealing with the menace.
He said on October 11,2024, GNASSM will host a public forum in Osino, Eastern Region, to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our water bodies and forest reserves.
