The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is urging residents in the Guan area to use the December 7, polls to punish the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the pain and injustice caused them over the last four years.
Mr Asiedu Nketia who is on a four-day campaign tour of the Volta region and parts of the Oti region believes the exclusion of residents in Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi (SALL) from the parliamentary elections in 2020 was a deliberate sin by government that must not go unpunished.
“I want to urge you to vote massively with anger against NPP -the reason is that since independence, we have never had an occasion where in an election, a certain group of people will be denied the right to choose their representative to parliament,” he said.
“It is only Guan constituency where the people have been treated as second class citizens of this country and you must revolt by your vote to demonstrate that you will not allow yourselves to be treated as second class citizens,” he stressed.
Mr Asiedu Nketia also revealed that though several efforts have been made to ensure the people the Guan area vote in the parliamentary elections on December 7, certain elements and individuals are working behind the scenes to halt the process.
He stressed that should the NPP get 10% of votes in the four Traditional Areas, it will be a slap in the face of everyone who has been fighting government and the Electoral Commission for the injustice done to them in 2020.
The NDC National Chairman’s four-day tour of the Volta region and the newly created Guan constituency, began with community engagements with chiefs and party members in four different communities in the Likpe Traditional Area and some other communities in Lolobi where he highlighted key issues captured in the NDC manifesto and urged them to vote massively for the NDC and its parliamentary candidate, Fred Agbenyo.
In the Hohoe constituency, the NDC National Chairman has also been urging voters not to fall for the NPP and its parliamentary candidate for the second time.
He believes voting for John Mahama and the party’s candidate, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo is the only way the area can get development citing the NPP for failing to deliver on several promises they made to the people.
