The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated it is committed to providing a robust and credible voters’ register for a free and fair election this year.
Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa made the statement during an IPAC meeting with political parties on Tuesday, October 1.
“It is in our interest to produce credible and robust final voter’s register…We urge you all and the citizens of Ghana to trust us. We will not fail you; we will not disappoint you and we commit and pledge to conducting and undertaking a free, fair, transparent, and credible election come 2024,” she said.
The EC Chairperson announced that the Commission has corrected all errors detected in the voters register.
According to the Commission, the current voters’ register is more accurate than what was used for the voters’ exhibition in August.
“As a commission we have devoted the last few weeks to correct the discrepancies and you will find that the provisional voters’ register today is different and more accurate than what was exhibited and provided to the parties in August 2024.
“The discrepancies detected to date has been largely corrected and the register that was presented to parties in early August is very different from what we have today,” Jean Mensa stated.
She described as untrue the assertions that the EC is deliberately attempting to disenfranchise some voters.
The EC has said a second online voters’ exhibition will be announced in the coming days for voters to check their details online at a free cost and submit the discrepancies they detect to the EC.
Political parties will also be furnished with the revised provisional voters’ register and will be given a time frame to report any discrepancy they detect in the register to the EC.
“We urge the parties to see this as a national assignment and not a partisan assignment. Let us put our hands to the plow and collectively clean the provisional voters’ register to ensure it is robust ahead of the 2024 elections,” Jean Mensa stated.
