Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has urged his fans to end the comparison between himself and Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba describing the act as “disrespectful.”
Netizens have sparked a debate online after making comparison over music supremacy between two of Ghana’s music giants: dancehall king Shatta Wale and highlife legend Daddy Lumba.
Although both artistes reigned in different eras and do different genres of music, the comparison was based on who has more hits than the other.

Fans of both musicians are torn between who has more hits and still relevant in the music industry considering their many achievements and timeless hit tracks.
In response to the ongoing debate, Shatta Wale praised his more experienced colleague, Daddy Lumba, citing his significant impact on Ghanaian music.
Shatta Wale said he had the utmost respect for the history of Daddy Lumba and that the highlife icon had a significant impact on Ghanaian music.
He urged his fans to end the debate as he considers it “disrespectful”.
“It is very disrespectful to compare me to the legend Daddy Lumba , Everyone should stop that because the man in Question paved way for you favs and me myself,” Wale tweeted.
Daddy Lumba is one of the pioneers of highlife music who reigned and became very prominent in the Ghanaian music scene from the early 1990s to the 2000s.
His smooth vocals together with his lyrics have earned him timeless highlife tracks which are still the favourites of many.
Meanwhile, Shatta Wale, began his career in the early 2000s as ‘Bandana’ before rebranding to Shatta Wale. The controversial musician through hard work and consistency has become a household name in contemporary Ghanaian music, particularly in the dancehall genre.
Both artistes have etched their names with impressive catalogs filled with chart-topping songs that have earned them multiple awards. Daddy Lumba won the Ghana Music Awards (GMA) ‘Artiste of the Year’ in 2000, and Shatta Wale followed in his footsteps by clinching the same award 14 years later.
Their similar achievements and enduring popularity have sparked a full-blown argument among fans, who are uncertain about which of the two reigns supreme. But the ‘Minamino Sin’ crooner has acknowledged the ‘seniority’ of Daddy Lumba and called for an end to the comparison.
