Legendary Asante Kotoko player Wilberforce Mfum has strongly opposed the decision of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) to support coach Prosper Ogum despite the team’s poor performance in the Ghana Premier League.
Mfum, who played for Kotoko between 1962 to 1967, insists on the immediate dismissal of Coach Ogum following a string of disappointing results.
The return of Prosper Ogum as coach of the Porcupine Warriors has left many fans devastated, with the team enduring a dismal run in the second round of the Ghana Premier League, suffering four consecutive losses.
Despite mounting calls from supporters for Ogum’s removal, the club’s management has expressed confidence in the coach’s ability to turn things around, urging fans to remain patient and supportive.
However, Wilberforce Mfum finds the stance of the club unacceptable and questions the wisdom of retaining a coach after such a poor run of results.
Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Mfum expressed his dismay, stating, “That is not right. If I held any capacity in the team, I wouldn’t have agreed to this decision of the IMC. How can you lose five matches and still be at the helm of Kotoko?”

Mfum further asserted that the current situation reflects poorly on Otumfuo, the life patron of the club. He attributed the team’s struggles to the low quality of players at Kotoko’s disposal, criticising the decision to give the coach sole responsibility for player recruitment.
“Otumfuo’s name can’t be disgraced to this level,” Mfum remarked. “Why was he (Ogum) given so much power to purchase players singlehandedly? Kotoko deserves top-class players who can fill the stadium with supporters, not lower-division players like we currently have.”
Mfum emphasised the urgency for Ogum to reverse the team’s fortunes, starting with their next league fixture against Bechem United.
He stressed that winning back the support of fans and earning the respect of Kotoko legends requires immediate performance improvement.
Lying ninth on the Ghana Premier League table, Ogum and his men will hope to bounce back as soon as possible to win the trust of fans.
