The Central Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, on his elevation to the role of Minority Leader in Parliament.
“Dr Ato Forson’s elevation offers ample testament to his hardwork and dedication to the cause of the NDC in Parliament and in Ghana in general over the years,” a statement issued by the regional branch said.
The former Deputy Finance Minister was on Tuesday, January 24 named by his party to lead its caucus in Parliament, replacing long-serving Haruna Iddrisu, the MP for Tamale South Constituency.
Though the decision has been met with mixed reactions in the corridors of the NDC with some MPs expressing shock at that, the Central Region branch of the party says their “son” can perform excellently.
“We have absolute confidence in Dr Forson’s ability to perform excellently in his new role of leading the Minority in Parliament to keep the marauding and under-performing Akufo-Addo government in check and subject them to strict legislative oversight and scrutiny to protect the Ghanaian people from the abysmal and appalling governance they have offered.”
Until this new role, Dr Ato Forson was the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee.
According to the statement signed by Regional Secretary Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams, the MP joins “a distinguished array of sons and daughters of the Region, who have brought honour to the region through their meteoric rise to various high offices”.
The party wished Mr Iddrisu and his outgoing team well, especially with his future endeavours “even as he remains an integral part and important stalwart of the NDC”.
