The office for the Coordinated Mechanism on the safety of Journalists has been opened in Accra.
It was opened by Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Tuesday May 4 as part of the 2021 World Press Freedom celebration.
It will be operated by the National Media Commission (NMC).
Mr Oppong Nkrumah thanked “all those who have walked the journey in making this office a reality. This is part of the many layers of work government wants to do to ensure free media operate in Ghana” adding that this forms part of the the government’s commitment to Press Freedom and Safety of Journalists.
“It is the reason I cannot agrees that there is a culture of silence in Ghana because the government is committed to the culture of free media in Ghana” he said.
