Public Universities Bill has not been passed – Govt
The government has denied media reports that the Public Universities Bill has been passed by Parliament.
Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the reports are false and should not be accepted.
Reports claimed during a debate on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, 15 December 2020, the bill had been passed.
The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddirsu was quoted as saying “I must say that stakeholder consultation is very important in the work we do as Parliament. That is why article 106 of the 1992 constitution requires that we invite a public memorandum and these are stakeholders who are affected by the Bill and therefore, an assurance for the Education Minister that they will be thoroughly engaged and the report of same be submitted to Parliament either than that, we are unable to support this Bill,”
But in tweet, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said : “For the avoidance of doubt, please note that the Public Universities Bill has not been passed by Parliament.”
