C/R: Traders think COVID-19 is like malaria –  Survey  

Traders in parts of the central region believe Coronavirus (COVID-19) is not a serious infectious disease as it is being portrayed, a survey has found.

According to the health authorities in area who conducted the survey, most of the traders in almost all the big markets believe coronavirus is like malaria.

Deputy central regional health director, Dr. Kwabena Sarpong, disclosed this on Onua TV’s COVID-19 NKOMO on Wednesday August 19.

“We did survey in some markets in the Region and most people said it’s just like malaria… Most people think the disease is not risky. Most people think the number of deaths is not many and as such not risky”, he said.

“We went to some of the big markets such as Kotokoraba and Abura in Cape Coast, Elmina market, Kasoa and Mankessim and in all these, people think the virus is not as serious as it is being portrayed”, he added.

Meanwhile, Media General’s central region’s correspondent, Thomas Cann, visited some commercial places in the region and reported that the nose masks are being worn on the jaw or chick instead of the nose. He reported some traders told him they feel hot when they wear the nose mask.
