The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has suspended operations at the surgical department as a result of some staff contracting coronavirus.
The suspension of non-emergency surgical cases will be for a period of two weeks.
“This measure is therefore to protect our clients and the rest of the staff who are still at post and providing care to patients,” a news release issued by Head of Public Relations Mustapha Salifu on Monday said.
The release suggested that the decision will enable management reorganize for the resumption of regular services.
“Only dire emergencies will be attended to within this period,” it said.
The Hospital has consequently appealed to sister health facilities to refer only dire surgical emergencies to the country’s foremost hospital.
It noted, however, that other departments of the Hospital are still in full operation.
