Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold have been penciled down as Ghana’s representatives for next year’s CAF inter-club competitions.
Both clubs have been given the first right of refusal to a proposal by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to have them represent the country.
Should they accept, both clubs will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively.
GFA’s Executive Council, in deciding Ghana’s representatives for next year, found a safe haven in the erstwhile Normalization Special Cup competition, which was used to choose the country’s representatives for the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions.
Kotoko get the Champions League slot by being Tier 1 winners while Ashgold were Tier 2 winners hence the Confederation Cup.
Should both clubs decline the gesture, the FA will look to the runners-up in the NC Special Cup competition.
The decision was reached on the same day the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League was cancelled due to the ongoing uncertainty over Covid-19.
