Several persons got injured on Friday as police used water cannons and teargas to disperse a crowd celebrating the Damba festival.
This was after a clash ensued between the police and the Nakpaa Naa family who were being stopped from observing the annual festival in Bimbila in the Northern region.
The Nakpaa Naa family were prevented by the police from celebrating the festival because it was considered inappropriate following a Supreme Court ruling declaring the Dasana family legitimate heirs to the Bimbila skin.
The Apex Court ruled that the Regent of Bimbila, Nyelin-Boligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, was the legitimate heir to the skin and not Nakpaa Naa Salifu Dawuni.
The two families have been embroiled in a long dispute about who was the rightful heir of the Bimbila skin before the Supreme Court ruling.
