Ghana National Gas Company Limited has assured that, barring any unforeseen circumstance, it will meet its deadline and start supplying gas to the Karpowership by the 31st of October, 2019.
Speaking to journalists in Takoradi, on Saturday, the Head of Corporate Affairs of the gas company, Ernest Owusu Bempah disclosed that 98% of work is currently complete with neutralizing and clearing the pipelines through testing and commissioning being undertaken.
“Purging is currently ongoing. Nitrogen is being pushed through the pipelines to clear it and to check for leakages. When this is done, then we are sorted.”
He stated, “Apart from that, all the engineering work is complete”.
He also assures that there is sufficient gas to ensure consistent supply to the ship for power generation. The power ship is expected to utilize between 60 to 90 million cubic feet of gas daily to produce about 450 megawatts of power.
Mr. Owusu reiterated that the expansion works at the Takoradi Metering Station is now complete
“You know the Takoradi metering station’s expansion from 105 to 405 million cubic feet of gas is now complete. So we are in a position to supply all the needed gas”, he stated.
