Some chiefs in the Brong Ahafo Region have commended president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for fulfilling some key promises he made in the run up to the 2016 general election and his fight against corruption.
Nana Okofo Adjapong III, acting President of Nkoranza Traditional Council who spoke on behalf of the Coalition of Bono Chiefs said they were happy Nana Akufo-Addo has for the last 15 months implemented some policies and programmes.
He said those programmes and policies, which included the Free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs and the National Builders Corps, have started yielding results for the people of Ghana.
“I seize this opportunity to commend you and your government for the various interventions or programmes; we have free SHS, planting for food and jobs and the Nation Builders Corp,” he said.
They gave the commendation during an interaction with the President at Busunya in the Nkoranza North District as part of Nana Akufo-Addo’s three-day tour of the Brong Ahafo Region.
While commending the President for honouring his campaign promise of creating new regions they urged him to build news roads as well as completion of ongoing projects in the area.
The President responding to questions regarding collapsed micro-financial institutions in the country advised the people to always ensure the institutions they transact business with are licenced by the Bank of Ghana.
He said of all the collapsed institutions, “It was only DKM which had licence from the Bank of Ghana. The rest were unlicensed financial institutions, which came to create problems for people”.
It is because DKM had licence from the Bank of Ghana that is why Bank of Ghana was able to work on the case of the customers, sating “the rest are not known by the Bank of Ghana”.
He said more of such fraud financial institutions were going to emerge hence the people should make it their responsibility to demand for licences of these companies before they deal with them.
“I appeal to you to let the people understand this so that going forward should any company emerge, the citizenry should be able to question them on whether they have procured the necessary licences.
On the creation of new regions, President Akufo-Addo said he is waiting for the report of the Commission of Enquiry and expressed optimism that the recommendations of the Commission will favour the creation of the new regions.
He said once all the necessary steps are followed he would forward it to the Electoral Commission to conduct a referendum.
