Ghana captain Jordan Ayew made his Sheffield United debut on Sunday, coming off the bench in their 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Championship.
Ayew was introduced in the second half, replacing Ben Brereton Díaz as manager Chris Wilder looked to change the game for the Blades.
The Ghanaian forward gave a good account of himself after coming on and immediately looked to make an impact, firing an effort wide with one of his first contributions.
Sheffield United had matched Wolves for long periods in a relatively even contest and looked set to earn a share of the spoils before the visitors snatched victory in the final minute of normal time.
Wolves substitute Raúl Jiménez scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute after Kieran Trippier found space at the back post and teed up Doyle. His effort took a favourable deflection into the path of Jiménez, who swept the ball home from close range.
The defeat was a disappointing result for United after they had enjoyed a positive midweek outing against Blackburn Rovers.
Wilder made four changes to the side that won at Blackburn, with McGuinness, Arblaster, Bamford and Phillips coming into the starting XI.
Ayew was among the substitutes before being called upon in the second half.
His debut comes just days after completing his move to Sheffield United as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Leicester City.
The 35-year-old Ghana international brings considerable experience to the Blades, having played for Marseille, Sochaux, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City during his career.
Ayew also captained Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and started all four of the Black Stars' matches at the tournament.
The forward will now look to build on his first appearance and push for a starting role as Sheffield United continue their Championship campaign.
