Ghana’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo Magnus Kofi Amoatey has paid a solidarity visit to Medeama SC ahead of their crucial CAF Champions League return leg against TP Mazembe.
Ambassador Amoatey met the Medeama delegation in Lubumbashi on Friday, offering words of encouragement to the Ghanaian champions before Saturday’s decisive preliminary-round encounter.
The meeting brought together the club’s leadership, technical team and players as the ambassador expressed Ghana’s support for the team’s continental campaign.
His visit comes at a critical moment for Medeama, who must overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
TP Mazembe secured a late 1-0 victory at T&A Park last weekend, leaving Ibrahim Tanko’s side with a difficult task against the five-time African champions on their home ground.
Medeama need to score at least once in Lubumbashi, while a two-goal victory would guarantee their progression to the next round.
Despite the first-leg setback, Medeama will take confidence from their strong spells in the opening encounter, although their lack of cutting edge in front of goal ultimately proved costly.
Medeama will face TP Mazembe at Stade TP Mazembe on Saturday, September 12, with kick-off scheduled for 1:00pm Ghana time in Lubumbashi.
