Premier League football returns to the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Saturday when newly promoted Ashantigold FC host Vision FC in their first home fixture of the 2026/27 season.
Ashantigold are making their return to Ghana’s top flight as debutants under a new management structure, with the club legally separate from the former Ashanti Gold S.C., which was banned in 2022 following a match manipulation case.
The Obuasi side started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against fellow newcomers Port City FC. After taking the lead in the first half, they were unable to hold on for victory but will take confidence from a positive opening-day performance.
Their biggest source of encouragement is their impressive home record from last season’s Division One League campaign. Ashantigold went unbeaten in all 15 home league matches, winning 12 and drawing three, while scoring 30 goals and conceding only 10.
Coach Abdul Karim Zito will hope his team can carry that form into the Premier League and give the returning Len Clay Stadium a winning start.
Vision FC, however, arrive in Obuasi in excellent spirits after opening their season with a 3-0 victory over Young Apostles.
The Tema-based side have remained unbeaten in their last three opening-day league fixtures and kept clean sheets in each of those matches.
Vision FC also possess a strong away record. They finished seventh among the league’s best away teams last season and ended their campaign with a 1-0 victory at Nations FC.
They will be looking to secure consecutive away wins in the Premier League for the first time since their promotion to the top flight in the 2024/25 season.
Ashantigold will be eager to make their homecoming count, while Vision FC will aim to build on their emphatic opening-day victory.
With both sides entering the game with plenty of confidence, the Len Clay Stadium could provide the setting for one of the weekend’s most interesting Premier League encounters.
