Bulgaria-based Ghanaian forward Kwadwo Duah has been dropped for the Switzerland squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The English-born striker with Ghanaian parents, who played for Switzerland at the 2024 Euros in Germany, failed to make the 26-man squad which was released by coach Murat Yakin on Wednesday.
Despite scoring 8 goals in 17 games for Ludogorets this season, Duah could not convince the Turkish trainer and will miss the competition this summer.
However, the Swiss team have paraded one of the most experienced squad for the World Cup, with Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka and Ricardo Gonzalez making their fourth appearance.
Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji, Breel Embolo, Nico Elvedi, Remo Freuler and Denis Zakaria will be at the World Cup for the third time.
“Over the past few years, we have developed a great sense of unity and a fantastic team spirit, and we are approaching the immediate World Cup preparations and the tournament itself with a strong team spirit. Therefore, it was important to me and my staff not to make any drastic changes and to rely on proven players whom we know and value,” said Yakin.
Switzerland have been drawn in Group B alongside co-hosts Canada, Bosnia Herzegovina and Qatar.
