Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to include three home-based players in the Black Stars for the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament.
The global showpiece, to be co-hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico will feature an expanded 48 countries, with Ghana securing one of Africa’s automatic nine slots.
The West African powerhouse are paired in Group L alongside European giants, England, 2018 finalists, Croatia and Panama.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England on June 23 in Boston. The Black Stars will wrap up their group fixture against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
According to reports, players playing their trade in the local scene are being considered for the biggest soccer mundial amid FIFA financial windfall to clubs.
The FIFA Club Benefits Programme is an effort aimed to recognize the contributions of football clubs during World Cup seasons.
This year’s tournament will see FIFA pay $11,000 a day for each player. However, group stage exit will mean each club can cash out for about 22 days of their player being on FIFA's tab.
However, Ghana is said to be considering the inclusion of three local players in the Black Stars squad for the tournament. The decision is to help equip the clubs financially.
Meanwhile, Carlos Queiroz has reportedly submitted his provisional squad to FIFA and is expected to trim down the squad to the required number for the tournament.
