Former Ghana international Daniel Opare has admitted his biggest career regret is failing to fully realise his potential, with injuries repeatedly halting his progress at crucial stages.
Once viewed as a future mainstay for both club and country, Opare’s early development at Real Madrid Castilla and rise into the Black Stars setup pointed to a player on course for the highest level.
"It is not easy to get to that level so [I am thankful]," he told JoySports.
"I regretted a little bit because of the injuries because I could have fulfilled my potential.
"Personally, my potential was not fully fulfilled [because of injuries], that was my only regret."
Two major international tournaments slipped away at key moments. Opare was forced out of Ghana’s squad for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations after sustaining an ankle injury in camp, and another setback ruled him out of the 2013 edition, where he had been in line for a starting role.
At club level, he showed his quality during his time at Standard Liège, earning a move to FC Porto in 2014. But spells with FC Augsburg, RC Lens and BeÅiktaÅ J.K. were again undermined by injuries, limiting his consistency and long-term impact.
