Former Hearts of Oak defender, Amankwaa Mireku has said the club has to win trophies despite shift in focus to improve infrastructure by the board.
In their last Annual General Meeting, Hearts of Oak Board Chairman, Togbe Afede explained his desire to improve the club’s infrastructure.
Amankwaa Mireku in an interview with Connect 97.1FM said building infrastructure shouldn’t hinder the team from winning trophies.
“You can’t justify building of infrastructure with performance. The leaders of the team doesn’t play football so if they are concentrating on infrastructure, it shouldn’t affect performance on the field.
“We were not having the facilities the team is having currently in 2000 but we still delivered so it shouldn’t be an excuse,” Mireku said.
He continued by saying the club has experienced players and are ripped enough to win trophies and that should be the focus of the club.
“There is difference between infrastructure building and team rebuilding, with the later, it affect performance on the field.
“You can’t say you are grooming experienced players before a team wins a trophy, it’s not done like that,” he added.
